GMAT Prep Course

Some people recommend formal GMAT prep courses as you consider an MBA program.  But sometimes the best GMAT prep course is one you design yourself.  Let me explain.

Starting with the right study guide can teach you not only the techniques you need for the test, but the techniques for preparing for the test.  You can literally make your own GMAT prep course, which not only saves you hundreds of dollars and weeks of time, but was also the best possible GMAT prep course you can attend since it is tailored for you specifically.

There are some limits to traditional GMAT prep courses.  The instructor is constrained by the slowest students in each class- well, this means that 80% of the students learn less in the GMAT prep course that they otherwise would, while the least prepared students hog the instructor.

The secret of a good GMAT prep course is complete immersion in GMAT practice tests.  Why?  Because, just like football players need to actually play football in order to do well on game day, the goal of a GMAT prep course is to prepare you to do well on test day.  Repetition is the best teacher, as any sports champion will attest, and an emphasis on the fundamentals in your GMAT prep course will make you a better student and a better test-taker.  It’s not fancy, but it works- try it, you’ll like it.

To sum up, you can get the best GMAT prep course available by purchasing an affordable study guide, some practice tests, and then spending a moderate amount of time learning and applying the concepts of the test.  If you do that, you can have great success.
